Gelin & Philo

Gelin, a native of Fond-des-Blancs, Haiti, was born into a family of six siblings: Julienne, Vitesse, Luibe, Diqueur, and Elda. As a young adult, he made the life-changing decision to leave his hometown and settle in Port-au-Prince, the bustling capital city. There, he worked closely with his brother-in-law, Sauveur Benoit, and learned the craft of carpentry. For a significant part of his adult life, He worked at one of Haiti's largest printing presses until he eventually moved to the U.S.

Known for his strong work ethic and determination, Gelin always put his family's well-being first. His genuine simplicity and kindness endeared him to all who knew him, earning him respect and admiration. Gelin, one of the early settlers in Port-au-Prince, took on the role of a facilitator for those who decided to leave Fond-des-Blancs and establish their residence in the bustling capital city.

 

Throughout the years, he demonstrated unwavering dedication as a hardworking individual, ceaselessly striving to provide for his children and those within his sphere of influence. Gelin's impact extended beyond his immediate family, as he also left a lasting impression on friends and acquaintances with his selflessness and caring nature.

MY JOURNEY

Philomene Rene, the only daughter among three brothers, was born in Petion-Ville, Haiti, bringing a ray of sunshine into her family's life. From a young age, she displayed a remarkable work ethic and a strong sense of responsibility. As she grew older, these qualities flourished, and she dedicated herself to supporting her husband and building a loving home.

For a good portion of her life, Philomene worked at a large printing facility in the bustling city of Port-au-Prince. Her days were filled with hard work and dedication to her job, ensuring she provided for her family's needs. However, her determination did not end there. Evenings and weekends became opportunities for her to pursue her passion as a Hair Dresser, turning her home into a small salon where she skillfully transformed hair and brought smiles to her clients' faces.

Philomene's unwavering commitment and hard work have endeared her not only to her children and grandchildren but also to all who have had the privilege of knowing her. Her kindness and generosity know no bounds, and she has consistently gone above and beyond to extend a helping hand to those in need. As a friend, she offers unwavering loyalty and support, and her presence brings comfort and joy to those around her. Philomene's life is a testament to the power of perseverance, love, and selflessness, leaving a lasting impact on all whose lives she has touched.

Before welcoming their own six children into the world, Gelin and Philomene demonstrated their selfless nature by informally adopting two remarkable individuals. The first was Oriol Cange Benoit, the son of Gelin's brother Vitesse, while the second was Lyonel Peltrop Lemaine, the eldest son of Lys Lemaine, who resided in Fond-des-Blancs. With unwavering dedication, Gelin and Philomene embraced their roles as legal guardians to Oriol and Lyonel for many years, providing them with a loving and supportive family environment.
