The Matriarch
PHILOMENE J. RENE
A Celebration of Life

In Loving Memory
of Philomene Jesula Rene
Welcome to the life and legacy of Philomene J. Rene, a woman whose journey was defined by dignity, resilience, courage, and self-sacrifice. Born in 1937 in the beautiful town of Pétion-Ville, Haiti, Philomene embodied the grace, strength, and quiet perseverance of her homeland throughout her life.

From an early age, she carried herself with integrity and poise, guided by a profound sense of selflessness and an inner strength that never wavered. Philomene consistently placed the needs of others before her own, meeting life’s challenges with courage, humility, and unwavering resolve. Her presence brought comfort, stability, and reassurance, offering calm in moments of uncertainty and love in times of need.

In 1962, Philomene united in marriage with her beloved husband, Gelin Cange Sr., beginning a partnership rooted in love, responsibility, and shared purpose. That same year, they opened their hearts and home by informally adopting Oriol Cange Benoit, welcoming him as a son and changing the course of his life through unconditional love and guidance. Their generosity extended further as they embraced Lyonel Lemaine (Peltrop) as a cherished son. Their home became a sanctuary—a place where every child was seen, valued, and loved.

Amid this growing family, Philomene gave birth to her sons, Lesly J. Cange and Gelin Cange Jr., whose arrivals brought immeasurable joy and further strengthened the bond within their household. In the years that followed, her nurturing spirit continued to flourish as she welcomed four daughters into the world: Marie Frantze, Guilene, Marcelle, and Merline. Each child was raised with unwavering devotion, encouragement, and the quiet assurance that their mother would always stand beside them. Her love was tireless, her commitment unshakable, and her children remained her greatest pride.

Beyond her immediate family, Philomene’s heart and home were always open. Extended family members, friends, and loved ones found warmth, acceptance, and refuge within her walls. She welcomed all with kindness and generosity, offering not only shelter, but understanding, guidance, and a deep sense of belonging.

Even in the face of declining health, Philomene remained a source of strength and peace. She carried herself with remarkable courage and serenity, never allowing illness to diminish her spirit. In her final days, she was surrounded by her loved ones—those who cared for her unreservedly, stood faithfully at her bedside, and enveloped her in love until her very last breath. She departed this world peacefully, comforted by presence, prayer, and the enduring bonds she had so lovingly built.

On January 31, 2026, Philomene J. Rene passed away at the age of 88, leaving behind a legacy that cannot be measured in years alone. Her life stands as a testament to resilience, compassion, unity, and enduring love.

Philomene J. Rene is survived by her beloved husband, Gelin Cange Sr.; her sons, Lesly J. Cange and Gelin Cange Jr.; and her four daughters: Marie Frantze, Guilene, Marcelle, and Merline.
